NEW Editing Services / IWSG + Articles Needed

How do you like our NEW badge? Thanks, Alex!

The Insecure Writer's Support Group is a safe place for all insecure writers.

INSECURITY: My insecurity as of now? That I won't get a single person...ever...interested in my editing services (see below). My other insecurity involves the number of unfollows I've had with my blog last month. 12. *sigh* 12 people unfollowed my blog in the span of two weeks. I've never had it drop like that so fast. It makes we wonder why. Do they not like my Wednesday posts about my series? Or do they not like me? *tear* Update: Apparently it's Blogger and Google deleting accounts and not my doing. *phew*

Well, I'm thankful for all of you and everyone who continues to follow my blog, so that helps a lot in making me smile. :)

On to the details of my editing services and the articles I need from YOU!

****

NEW EDITING SERVICES!

Let’s be honest...every writer needs some source of income to survive. To help me survive, and to further help my fellow writers, I’ve decided to offer editing services for a small price...and I’m starting lower than most.

Credentials: I have beta read and edited for Yolanda Renee (short stories for anthologies and blog posts), Tammy Theriault (Novel), Loni Townsend (This World Bites/novella), and several others.

I edit in these areas of fiction:
Short stories (any genre)
Novellas (any genre)
Novels (any genre)

Services:

Full Edit + Critique: In which I comment on content (plot and characters), check for typos, punctuation errors and grammar. I will cut unnecessary words and sentences, check for redundancies, repeated words, and POV changes. I will also offer easy fixes and suggestions on content.

Price: $1.00 per page

Manuscript Critique: In which I focus on content (plot and character) with no typo fixes or other forms of editing. I will point out flaws (if any), offer easy fixes, suggestions, and also comment on things I like.

Price: $0.50 per page

All payments will be done through PayPal.

If anyone is interested, please email me at ChrysFey(at)yahoo(dot)com

  1. The newsletter sounds exciting! Sorry to hear about the drop in followers. I don't even pay any attention to that; I'm so stinking busy most days. Good luck with the editorial service. Have you tried to promote (a little) on Twitter? :)

    1. I hunt been paying attention until I noticed my follower count at the start of last month then noticed as it dropped. I wish I hadnt! This is the first time I'm announcing my editing services. I'm starting with telling the writers I know. :)

  2. Remind me and I will add your services to the IWSG site. (If I haven't already.)
Google just made some changes and eliminated all followers without a Google account. Everyone took a hit. I lost a hundred...

    1. Really? I hadn't known that. That makes me feel better knowing it was Google. But that sucks for those without a Google account.

  3. I lost a bunch of followers, too. Darn Google.

We should promote together. You edit, I format.

  14. New editing service. Sounds like a great idea. I may utilize that at some point. When you talk per page, what are the requirements? single or double space? font size? Margins?
Sorry you have had some drop-outs. I suppose that's to be expected at some point or another, but never encouraging. Best to concentrate on those who loyally follow you. They are your real literary friends.

  17. Don't stress about the unfollows - I've have two people unfollow me over the past month, so maybe it's just that time of year when people are cutting back? It just means the best people are left ;). Good luck with the editing services! As soon as I kick my ass into gear and write my second book, I'll definitely be coming to you for a quote :). So excited about the newsletter - can't wait to read it!

  23. I feel you. It took me years to get regular customers for freelance work. I use Fiverr. Though I have to compete with those who offer dirt cheap rates I know my quality speaks for itself and I offer low prices as well. Hopefully business will pick up and you should keep an eye out for fellow bloggers trying to write their own work. Maybe even offer to do a chapter and let them decide if they require your services. Also Kelly Hashaway is pretty booked editing wise. Maybe hit her up for a few tips?

  24. I'm worried I'll lose some blog followers, and Facebook/Twitter friends, when my 12-part gender-critical series starts next Monday. I feel so strongly about this exploding trend, and so upset at everything I've learnt from the gender-critical blogosphere (which the media refuses to report), I just couldn't stay quiet anymore. I figure it won't be my fault if any SJW types think I'm a horrible bigot for respectfully expressing and providing evidence for a deep skepticism.

Good luck with your editing business!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If you feel so strongly, don't pay attention to any unfollows. You don't want people on your social media who can't understand your views or know it's your view and they don't have to agree and that it's okay.

      Thank you!

  25. Hi Chrys .. you'll be fine - lots of articles will roll in, your editing services will be regularly used.

As to Google followers - don't worry - it's Google taking them down on our behalf .. there are various articles out there .. so ignore - they haven't left you .. they were probably other system user bloggers ... Such is Life in the Blog Blogger lane ..

  63. Unfollows are tough. I was told that every unfollow is a good thing, because ultimately, we're trying to find "our people," and someone who unfollows isn't our people.

My own aunt unfollowed me last week! I know she's not a horror fan, but come on!

I feel your pain. Congrats on your editing services as well. I've been a professional editor for many years, and I wish you all the best. It's not an easy gig, that's for sure, but it does bring a bit of money in - hopefully when you need it. <3

    1. Well, it seems to have been Blogger deleting accounts and dropping my followers. It's happening to many people.

    2. Probably inactive accounts, then. You don't need them.

    3. I was thinking the same thing. :)

  65. I hope the newsletter articles are pouring in, Chrys!
Lots of bloggers have been complaining about losing followers. I'm on Wordpress, so I don't have the GFC widget. I used to have it and then Blogger pulled it from non-blogger sites. When that happened, I added the Networked blogs widget, but still lost lots of followers because not everybody follows via that widget.
Good luck with the new ventures!

    1. They're sure making following blogs more difficult aren't they? I've recieved a few articles, not as many as I expected.
